Cascadia Atelier The audit$249

A custom-software studio · Victoria, British Columbia

Cascadia n.the place. Water finding its way down, in steps. Atelier n.the room. Where things are made properly, by hand.

We build the software a small business runs on. As one system, not a set of tools bolted together.

The core system, the website, the customer app, the owner's app and the employee app: designed together, built together, and kept in step as the business changes.

01 · What we build

Five surfaces. One system.

A cascade is a single stream finding its way down a series of steps. That is how we think about a business's software: one source of truth at the top, and every surface below it fed by the one above. Change a record once and it is right everywhere.

01

Core system

The record of what is true. Customers, orders, schedules, stock, whatever your business counts. Every other surface reads from here, so there is one answer to every question.

02

Website

What the public sees, drawn from the same records. The hours, prices and availability on the site are the ones the shop is actually working from.

03

Customer app

Booking, ordering, accounts and messages. The part of your business a customer holds in one hand, built so it feels like yours.

04

Owner's app

The view from the top of the stairs. Today's numbers, what needs a decision, and nothing that does not.

05

Employee app

The day's work, in order. Shifts, tasks, notes and sign-offs, written for the person actually doing the job.

Not every business needs all five. Some need two, arranged properly. The audit is how we find out which.

02 · How the atelier works

We listen before we draw, and draw before we build.

An atelier is a small room where things are made properly, in order, by hand. The order matters. Nothing is built here before it has been understood and written down.

i.

Listen

We start with how the business actually runs today: who does what, in what order, with which tools, and where it catches. Most of what we need to know, you already know.

ii.

Draw

Before anything is built, you receive a written proposal you can read in an evening: what we would keep, what we would change, what it would cost, and how long it would take.

iii.

Build

One system, delivered in stages you can use as they land. No long silence followed by a big reveal.

iv.

Tend

Software needs looking after. We stay on to keep it healthy, adjust it as the business changes, and be reachable when something needs a hand.

If the right answer is to keep what you have and arrange it better, that is the answer we will give you.

It happens often. A business that has been running for years has usually solved most of its own problems already; what it needs is for those solutions to be connected, and for the two or three that are costing real effort to be replaced. That costs you an audit, not a build.

03 · The one thing we sell first

The Elegance Audit

$249CAD

One flat price. No conditions attached.

A listening-first engagement. We spend time with how your business runs, look at the tools and records you already use, and then write you a proposal: what is working, what is costing you effort, and what we would do about it.

Building something new is not the default outcome. Often the right recommendation is to keep what you have and arrange it better, and the proposal will say so plainly.

We reply in plain language, within two business days.

What you receive

  1. i.A conversation with the people who run the business, about how it actually runs.
  2. ii.A review of the tools, records and routines you already have in place.
  3. iii.A written proposal: what to keep, what to change, what it would cost, and in what order.
  4. iv.A plain recommendation, including "keep what you have" when that is the honest one.
  5. v.The proposal is yours to keep and to use, with us or with anyone else.

05 · What we hold to

I will tell you when the answer is to keep what you have.

Plain language.

Every document we send you can be read without a translator. If a sentence needs explaining, we rewrite the sentence.

One system.

Surfaces that share one source of truth, so a change made once is right everywhere, and nobody is re-typing anything.

Long horizons.

We build for where the business is going, not only for where it is today, and we stay on to tend what we built.
